Jerry and Carla on the Riverboat Cruise - Memphis

On our final night in Memphis last week, we enjoyed a wonderful evening on the Island Queen Riverboat.   It was like a date night for all of us.  We traveled with a group of 26 ministers and their wives from the central Mississippi area.  It was a wonderful week, and that last night was really sweet.  It was nice to be with this group in settings outside of the church and the pulpit.  Granted, my husband is a minister, all of the men were, and I have developed great relationships with all of the wives.  As a couple, we have great rapport and a kinship with all of the couples.  This night was a time to relax and enjoy our spouses, and the company of the other couples.

The Spirits of My People – Slave Haven

The Slave Haven Museum was one of the sites we visited last week during our vacation in Memphis.  I was not prepared for what I experienced!  I had a reaction that I’ll never forget.  I felt a most unusual connection to the souls and spirits of my people throughout the “Jacob Burkle Estate”, which was a home used as a leg of the Underground Railroad.  A place where Harriet Tubman and hundreds of slaves were allowed in during their quest for freedom.

WOW WEDNESDAY – 6/3/09

Good Day!  A very common word that I use quite often is WOW!  I use it often because I find myself awe struck or speechless over the most incredible things.  For some, what I find WOW and wonderment in may be mundane and simple things for them.  I’ve been labled over the years as a “Polyanna”, “Gidget”, “Goody-two-shoe”, and one who looks through rose-colored glasses.
