ROADBLOCKS
“The stone which the builders rejected
Has become the chief cornerstone.
This was the LORD’s doing;
It is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day the LORD has made;
We will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:22-24 (NKJV)
One of the hardest things for us to accept is rejection. We take it very personally because it cuts through us and somehow says that we’re not good enough. Rejection can hit you like a slap in the face. It somehow make you feel as though something is wrong with you. To be turned down (no, you don’t get the job…..no, you don’t get the car / the house….. no, I don’t want to go out with you…….no, we don’t want to publish your book ….. no, we can’t help you ….. no, no, no….) can wear you down.
Rejection hurts, but I’ve learned that each rejection is a roadblock. A short definition of roadblock is: “An obstruction on a road”. It does what it says, it blocks the road. You would think that this is a bad thing, wouldn’t you? But I don’t think so.
First, look again at rejection. As I always say in my trainings and teaching, Jesus Christ is our perfect example and model in everything. He experienced the ultimate in rejection from His own people (Psalm 118:22; Mark 12:10-11; Luke 20:17). Jesus is the Chief Cornerstone. The cornerstone is the place where a building is joined. It connects the entire building. It’s what keeps it together. Holds it together. Jesus is not only a cornerstone, but He’s the Chief Cornerstone, meaning He is more valuable than any other. Yet, this precious stone was rejected by the builders.
You and I will also know rejection in our lives.
I experienced much rejection over the last few months as God brought me through a most challenging and life-changing journey. Doors were shut in my face, no help was available to me, no one could help me, I felt all alone. Yet, the rejection kept coming in many forms. However, God held me up and allowed me to look at these roadblocks as opportunities to catapult forward with power and strength.
Man’s “no” means nothing to God. Rejection hurts, I know, and it may feel as though your hope, future, and existence lies in the hand of man. But don’t let the devil fool you. Trust God always, even through the “no’s”.
“I called on the LORD in distress;
The LORD answered me and set me in a broad place.
The LORD is on my side;
I will not fear. What can man do to me?
The LORD is for me among those who help me;
Therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me.
It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.
It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in princes.” Psalm 118:5-9 (NKJV)
Let the roadblocks, the obstacles that stand in your way, the obstructions that block your path, let them encourage you stand stronger, taller, and higher in the Lord. Though you may have to take another route, don’t give up. Make the detour, but fashion in your heart that you are determined to get to your destination. God is with you, in you, beside you, above you, behind you, and for you! Don’t give up!
“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31 (KJV)
Blessings!

Carla,
Your article is on point! Constant rejection is a very heavy weight on even a believing, God-fearing soul. How would you encourage someone who’s consistently under that kind of attack?
Keep being a blessing, my dear.
